Solar Panels

In most circumstances solar panels fall under permitted development rights, meaning you can install them on your properties roof without planning permission, however this is not always the case. If your property is listed or in a conservation area, you may well need planning approval before installing solar panels, we would advise you check with your local planning dept.

Yes, solar panels generate energy from the daylight, albeit in summer the light is much stronger, and the days are longer, therefore we generate significantly more in the summer months, solar panels like bright and cold weather and will generate all year round.

We survey every property prior to any installation and our trained surveyor will assess the roof condition during this visit. We use software to verify the structure is suitable and provide advice on the general condition. Our in-house roofer can undertake any repair work should this be required.

Solar panels are very robust and have product warranties typically 25 years, which they should comfortably exceed in life span.

Batteries have become a common part of most new solar systems. They give the ability to store surplus energy and use later when required. You can also charge them up from cheaper off-peak tariffs which is particularly useful in winter months when solar generation is lower. Batteries provide you a greater level of independence from the grid supplied electricity. Our suggestion would be to include a battery, “however its not one size fits all”, we will provide a detailed report on how a solar system with or without a battery will work for you.

Heat Pumps

A heat pumps main function is a refrigerant system. Using either Air or the Ground as a source of heat, the heat is absorbed into the refrigerant gas within the heat pump, it runs through a compressor which essentially increases the temperature by increasing the pressure, transfers the heat generated into water which then circulates through your radiators, underfloor heating and Hot water tank to provide heating. It sounds complicated but is a relatively simple, tried, and tested heating solution that has been around for many years. We have many happy and warm customers who can confirm this!

Yes, a heat pump system can be designed for all applications. If a system is designed right, installed right it will work right. It is not a simple case of replacing a boiler with a heat pump, the systems are very similar in operation, however careful design is needed to ensure pipework and radiators are sufficiently sized to maintain a properties heat loss. We undertake full design and installations so please feel free to get in contact to discuss.

Yes, providing the radiators are sufficiently sized to maintain the rooms heat loss, they will work perfectly well.

At present the Government have a £7500 grant towards the cost of a heat pump installation. Heat pumps also benefit from 0% VAT so total cosats are very similar to that of replacing your boiler for new.

This very much depends on circumstance. There can be lots of work required to achieve an installation and in other circumstances it can be very easy to install. We will undertake a free survey of your property to assess what’s required and gather information to put an accurate proposal together for you.

Battery Storage

Battery storage systems do exactly what you think, they store electricity. System functionality vary slightly depending on circumstance however in summary you can store surplus energy generated from solar systems to use later, and you can also charge up batteries from suppliers cheap “off-peak” energy tariffs to power your house for much cheaper than “peak rate” electricity.

Batteries are not “one size fits all”, everyone uses electricity slightly differently. Battery size will be dependent on the amount of electricity you use and when you use it. We can provide advice on battery capacity with this information.

This will depend on the battery manufacturers installation guidelines, different manufacturers have different guidance however there is nearly always a suitable place to install them, indoors or out.

Boiler Replacements

We have experience in installing most major brands of boilers which gives us the knowledge to recommend boilers that are reliable and perform well. We also follow independent research from third parties such as Which? For further information. Typically our most popular boilers are either Ideal or WorcesterBosch.

Yes, we install Natural Gas, LPG and Oil

MVHR

MVHR stands for mechanical ventilation heat recovery, it is in essence an extractor fan, but instead of extracting soil air (and heat) to outside, it transfers the heat into fresh air ducted into other areas of the house.

In modern buildings, the construction is much more air tight than older properties. MVHR provides circulation of fresh air into the property whilst saving energy by not extracting heat.
